Orange & Lemon Gin Recipe

After speaking to Adam from Graphic about a recent acquisition of his, a vintage bottle of Gordon’s Lemon Gin, I started rooting around in the archives to find out a little more about it. I also got thinking about what it would have tasted like and how I might recreate it.

I found an advert of Gordon’s Orange and Gordon’s Lemon Gin, from a 1932 diary. It shows that they were bottled at 60 proof (UK method 34.29%ABV,  US method 30%ABV) and were made with real fruit and not essences.

With an idea of the strength used by Gordon’s, I found some Gordon’s Gin bottled at 37.5% (40% would be an alternative I’d like to try) and prepared the gins thus:
